This is an excellent four star option at this price. It
used to be the hunting lodge of the Maharaja, hence the
name. Our alternate choice was a trip to Kumbhalgarh. I am
glad we chose to stay back in Udaipur. We paid $85 for a
two night stay inclusive of $30 of food vouchers.
This hotel is located about 15 minutes drive away from the
city and is absolutely secluded. It is surrounded by hills
on all sides and is extremely quiet. It has lovely
gardens, a swimming pool, stud farm, a private airstrip, a
deer park and a very nice bar. It's restaurant is highly
recommended for Indian cuisine. While we were there the
entire hotel had no other guests and we were pampered by a
staff of 96! It has a Raj type of atmosphere which I
enjoyed more than the Lake Palace. Now that is high praise
indeed!
Rooms are nice but not luxurious. Avoid the 'chalet'
rooms. These are newer and lack any kind of atmosphere.
The library has a good collection of books on horses.
The horses themselves are much better than I have come
across anywhere else in India. All in all an extremely
relaxing place.
